Project Description
The project connects Rio de Janeiro / RJ and Juiz de Fora / MG. It is the main road corridor between the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, besides being a relevant stretch in the radial highway that connects Brasília and Rio de Janeiro, It is implanted in an extension of 180.4 km. Currently, the toll road is operated by CONCER Concessionaire. The average daily volume of vehicles is approximately 17,000, with an average of 168 operational occurrences per day, between medical and mechanical assistance. The current concession will expire on March 1, 2021, and this highway along with two other highways (BR-116 / RJ and BR-116 / RJ / SP) are strategic for the extent and volume of traffic and should studied jointly in order to define the model that generates the highest asset value. The highway has already received approximately R$ 1.5 billion in investments. Another important aspect to emphasize is the current construction of the new ascent of the Serra de Petrópolis. This work is currently under the responsibility of the concessionaire which works, when completed, will contemplate the largest road tunnel in the country (4.60 km). The investments for the new concession will result in the improvement of the level of service offered, ensuring greater fluidity and reliability. Furthermore, they will have a favorable impact on the safety of cargo and passenger transportation, reducing the occurrence of accidents and damages, as well as influencing travel time and logistics costs. The project was qualified to compose the portfolio of projects of the Investment Partnerships Program during the 2nd Meeting of the PPI Board. The qualification signals the beginning of studies for the realization of a new concession, to be implemented at the end of the current contract.
