Water and wastewater services in Tashkent are provided by SuvSoz, which operates (i) seven water intakes with overall capacity of 2.3 million cu.m/day, (ii) three wastewater treatment plants with overall capacity of 1.9 million cu.m/day, (iii) 368 pumping stations and (iv) 3,600 km of water pipes as well as 2,600 km of sewer pipes. 99.7 per cent of the City is covered by the water supply network. At the same time only 90 per cent of the City is connected to the sewage system. The company is 100 per cent owned by the City.
The City has approached EBRD with the request to finance (i) extension of its sewerage network to the northern areas of the City (where wastewater collection does not exist) and increase the sewerage system coverage from 90 per cent to 98 per cent and (ii) increase the efficiency of the water supply system. It should be noted that SuvSoz is an existing client of the Bank. In 2004 EBRD signed the Tashkent Water Supply Improvement Project (OpId 29167) and provided a loan in the amount of USD 10 million to the City to finance rehabilitation of the water infrastructure operated by SuvSoz.
EBRD has agreed to consider a USD 25 million loan to finance the capex programme of the Company.
