The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development EBRD is providing a EUR 88 million loan to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The proceeds will be used for the construction of Atakoy-Ikitelli metro line with a total length of 13.4 kilometers including 12 underground stations and a depot area as well as electromechanical works of the entire line.

The construction of a new metro line is part of the extension of the city's urban rail network to meet increasing demand. It will help provide frequent and efficient services to Istanbul residents and will be a fast, reliable, comfortable, and environmentally friendly alternative to the use of private vehicles. It is anticipated that the project will significantly improve the quality of the public transport services and contribute to reduction of air emissions and the traffic in Istanbul.
