The Volta Grande, Miranda and São Simão plants are all located in the state of Minas Gerais. These are old hydroelectric plants whose concessionaire (CEMIG) did not accept a renewal of the concession contracts under Law No. 12.783, of January 11, 2013.
The Volta Grande Plant is located in the municipality of Conceição das Alagoas (in the state of Minas Gerais), was completed in 1974 with four generating units and has an installed capacity of 380 MW. The Miranda Plant is located in the City of Indianapolis (in the state of Minas Gerais), was completed in 1998, has three generating units and has an installed capacity of 408 MW. The São Simão plant is between the municipalities of Santa Vitória (in the state of Minas Gerais) and São Simão (in the state of Goiás). It was completed in 1978 with 6 generating units and has an installed capacity of 1.710 MW.

The bidding process is also expected to require experience from the interested parties in the concessions that must prove ownership of at least one power plant with reservoir for at least five years. New concessionaires must make efforts to preserve jobs and employees who already work at the plants.
