Eletrobrás Distribuição Alagoas was created in 1983 and originates from the Alagoas Electricity Company - Ceal. The company currently holds the right to operate the electricity distribution in the state of Alagoas (in the Northeast of Brazil). The physical area of the company's concession contract is 27,848.00 square kilometers for a population of 3,340,932 inhabitants. In December 2015, it amounted to 1,045,270 customers in 102 municipalities within the state, with 4,742,391 MWh of energy required and 3,353,690 MWh of energy sold, totaling a capacity of 960 MVA installed in 40 substations.

This resumption will let Brazil allocate resources in activities that can be delegated to the private sector, with gains in efficiency, management and improvement in the quality of services provided to consumers. A higher quality supply of electric power will, in turn, have a direct impact on economic activity in the region, broadening investments and contributing to a boost in productivity, with implications for employment and incomes for the population served by the project.
