Amazonas Distribuidora de Energia S.A. (Amazonas Power Distributor) is a privately held, wholly owned subsidiary company of Eletrobrás in the state of Amazonas. By June 2015, it operated in a vertical manner exploring the generation, transmission and distribution of energy.
Amazonas Distribuidora de Energia S.A. serves a market of 897,041 consumers in 62 municipalities. The markets not connected to the capital of Manaus are served by 96 Isolated Systems that use diesel oil, natural gas and biomass as energy sources.
The distribution contract for Amazonas Distribuidora S.A. expired in October of 2015 and the concession was not extended. The government then decided to resume the privatization of the Eletrobrás Group distribution companies in order to allow the company to concentrate only on his true calling: power generation and transmission.
