The East-West Railroad Integration (FIOL) is designed to connect the North and Northeast regions of Brazil. There will be approximately 1,527 kilometers of passages between Figueirópolis in the State of Tocantins, to Ilhéus, on the coast of Bahia.
The stretch of EF-334 inserted in the PPI makes a connection between the cities of Ilheus and Caetité, both in the State of Bahia. The venture's objective is to specifically enable the transportation of iron ore production in the region (where the Bahia Mineração - BAMIN is located) through the South Port (a key port complex to be constructed near Ilheus).
Work on the project, currently VALEC's responsibility, has shown a physical progress of 70.3%, with around BRL 1.95 billion in investments having been already received. Over BRL 1,14 billion is estimated to be required in order to complete the work.
The technical studies for the concession of the railway are still underway.
